In this course, we will focus on learning the physical theatre style of the renowned English company
Gecko. We will devise an original piece of theatre that will be performed on a professional stage. We will use puppets, props, physicality, language, music, lighting, multimedia, and soundscapes, combining these elements to create a complete theatrical world. This course is designed for students that have prior acting and movement skills.
We will work consciously with our breath and engage in expansive emotional work. We will explore the use of both small and large objects, asking: How does an object become my partner on stage? The work will focus on self-exploration—"me, myself, and I"—within the context of the group. It will foster connection and group collaboration.
We will begin with a short self-
meditation, followed by a
body warm-up, strength and stretching exercises. From there, we will dive into the world of physical theatre, learning various exercises, doing some writing, and using this material to create our final presentation.
